1.- GERMAN PORTS: 300M TONS IN 20 YEARS
The German ports have doubled the amount of cargo they handle over the past twenty years to 300 million tons. The two container ports of Bremen (261% up) and Hamburg (83% up), are largely responsible for this growth. Both of them account for 63% of Germany's total shipping trade.
2.- EGYPT: NEW SUEZ CANAL
Egypt is planning to build a new Suez Canal alongside the existing 144-year-old historic waterway in a 4 billion dollar project.
3.-MALTA: 6th LARGEST REGISTER WORLDWIDE
According to the latest statistics provided by the Malta Ship Register Authoriry, Malta has now become the sixth largest ship register worldwide whilst further consolidating its position as the largest register in Europe thanks to the registration of almost 6.5 million gross tonage representing a growth rate of 12.5 percent over the previous year.
4.- QATAR: SECOND LNG TERMINAL IN ITALY
Italy and Qatar are planning to build their second LNG receiving terminal in Italy to enhance capacity. The existing terminal, designed, built and operated by Terminale LNG Adriático, is almost running at full capacity.
