1.- PORT OF FERROL: LOGISTIC HUB


The Ports of Spain Agency has endorsed the Port of Ferrol, located on the Northwest coast of the Spanish territory, as a logistic hub to take advantage of the expansion of the Panama Canal. Its main assets are its privileged location, its natural drafts of twenty meters deep, its container terminal and its availability for the settlement of foreign companies.

 

2.-RODMAN SHIPYARD: CONTROLLED BY CHINA SONANGOL


Rodman, a Spanish shipyard located near the Port of Vigo, will be the third European shipyard controlled by Chinese companies. If in the year 2013 Keichai Group bought the Italian shipyard Ferreti, and in the year 2014 Dailan Wanda Group bought the British shipyard Sunseeker, in the current year China Sonangol is closing the purchase of the Spanish shipyard Rodman. This operation includes both the division of Rodman Polyships (specialized in  nautical sports) and Metalships & Docks (specialized in large steel constructions).


                        

 





3.- GALICIA: FISHING POWER


Galicia is a Spanish region  on the Atlantic coast where fishing is the second most important economic sector after car manufacturing. According to the latest report issued by the Galician Institute of Statistics there is no European country  where the fishing sector has such a relevant weight in the GDP. In particular the total contribution of this sector to the Galician GDP goes up to 2.1% and generates a value of 1.136 million euros.

 

4.- VIGO SHIP REPAIR


A few days ago has initiated its activities Vigo Ship Repair, a business association that brings together naval repair companies located in the Port of Vigo. Through this partnership, the companies that form part of it offer their services to all kind of ships that, bound for Northern or Southern Europe, need any kind of urgent repair (machinery, electricity, painting, etc.) at competitive prices.

 



5.- MILITARY SHIPS FOR SCRAPPING


The Spanish Ministry of Defence is auctioning two frigates to be scrapped or recycled by Spanish or foreign companies. These frigates, launched in 1972 and discharged in 2009, are missile frigates. And the starting price to take part in the auction goes up to € 550.000 each.
