1.- BAHRI: VALENCIA AS PORT OF CALLBahri, the Saudi shipping company, has just started up a monthly service between North America, the Mediterranean and Middle East. The Port of Valencia will be the only Spanish port of call.

2.-MAERSK: WORLD RECORD

The Maersk shipping company has just beaten a new world record by moving 18,024 TEUS in the Port of Valencia APT Terminal. The ship Mc-Kinney Moeler has been the first to exceed 18,000 TEUS.

3.- PORT Of GIJON: DROP IN CONTAINER TRAFFIC

The Port of Gijón has suffered a drop in its container traffic in 2014. It only registered 53,437 TEUS, representing 8,569 less with respect to 2013.

4.-TERVALIS: FIRST PANAMAX TO CALL AT PORT OF CASTELLON

The Port of Castellón received on January 29th the first Panamax ship. It was the largest ship with fertilizers from China to Europe.

5.-SPANISH PORTS: GOOD 2015 CRUISE FORECAST

Last 2014 Spain received 7.6 million passengers from cruise ships, its second best historical record. The 2015 forecast is that it will reach 8.1 million.

1.- SPANISH AND PORTUGUESE COLLABORATION: ONE-STOP LOGISTICS SHOP

The President of the Spanish State Ports, Mr. José Llorca, has just held a meeting with the Presidents of the Portuguese ports of Sines, Faro, Portimao and Lisbon in order to explore the possibility of setting up a One-Stop Logistics Shop.

1.- ARTIC SHIP TRAFFIC: POLLUTION-REDUCING MEASURES

A new research study by the International Council on Clean Transport has found that polluting emissions from ships in the Artic could increase 150 to 600 % by 2025. Maritime vessels are a significant source of greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions which impact local air quality, human health and the global climate. The research found that making a small change, such as switching to 0.01 % sulfur fuel, could reduce potential emissions in 2025 under 2011 levels.

1- EUROPEA ECOBOND

The Spanish State Port Authority intends to launch an Europea EcoBond in order to promote short sea shipping in the Western Mediterranean. This project, which will be presented to the mechanism “Connecting Europe”, involves the participation of Spain, Portugal, France and Italy, and aims at implementing a system of subsidies to the carrier who chooses to use the sea motorway instead of travelling by road.
